Choosing the right wedding photographer for you!

Updated: May 20

Choosing a wedding photographer is a pretty daunting, yet super exciting experience! Trust me, I have been there! Obviously you want to find someone's photos you absolutely love, but there are some other things to consider too!

Wedding photography is a really important investment. Beautiful memories you can look back on time and time again and relive one of the most important days of your lives! Not only will you have those beautiful showstoppers you can put on the wall, but also special candid moments, you didn't even realise were being captured. These might be between the two of you or even of some of your nearest and dearest. I really believe that every picture tells a story and your photographer has the power to tell your own unique story when photographing your wedding day. Which is why I have created a list of sorts that have some things to think about when deciding who to go with. So grab a cuppa (or a hot chocolate because.. chocolate) and have a read through!

1. Style

Now I feel like this is where every couple should start, because ultimately photography is all about the visuals! You want to find a photographers who's style you absolutely adore! Every photographers style is different and that can really change the way your final wedding gallery comes out. Fan of the dark and moody? Light and airy? Bright, vivid colours? Natural light? The options are endless. A great way to get a good idea of a photographer's style is to head on over the the 'gram. Checking out the Instagram feed of a potential photographer is an awesome way to see not only a variety of their images, but to get a feel of their over all style. One thing to also keep in mind, please don't choose a photographer and ask them to change this style for you. Being a photographer is an artistic and creative job and their style is part of who they are creatively and you should always respect that.

2. Availability and budget

This might seem obvious but also super important. So you have found a wedding photographer you love and want them to shoot your wedding! (this makes a wedding photographer's day I promise!) The first thing you immediately want to do is contact them and see if they are available. Some photographers book up to 2 years in advance, so the sooner you get in touch the better. Having your heart set on a photographer that is booked sucks. So before you have it all locked in your mind that they are the one you want to shoot your wedding make sure they can! On the same vein, you also need to make sure that this amazing photographer you love is within your budget. As I mentioned earlier, wedding photography is an investment. This is perhaps one of the only things you will have left once the day itself is over, so you definitely want to make it count! Depending on a huge variety of factors wedding photographers prices vary. When you get in touch about availability, make sure to ask about their packages and pricing information too! This way you can make an informed decision on how your wedding photography fits within your budget.

3. We go dingadading dedong? I feel like that's incorrect. I'm sorry. haha..anyway.

Personality. As my poor (or AMAZING) attempt at humor suggests, you want to make sure you get along with your photographer well. They are with you for such a big portion, if not most of your wedding day, and you don't want to be feeling uncomfortable. If you love a photographer's style, they are available and within your budget, then you are pretty much there! A whole part of a photographer's style itself is the true and beautiful moments that they capture and it is going to be hard to get that happening in your photos if you are not vibin' with the person behind the camera. This i why it is important to make sure you all get along. Can you all have a laugh together? Does it feel like you are all a bunch of friends hanging out? Then this sound pretty great to me. Often you can get a really good feel of a photographer's personality by either heading on over to their InstaStory situation or even reading there about me section (linked for your convenience because mine includes my GORGEOUS fur-babies Milton and Nala) You can also have a good phone chat or meet up in person and can often tell if you all 'click' (pun intended. sorry not sorry.)

If all of the above mentioned things go to plan then you should have your decision sorted and you will be on your way to creating some magic on your special day!
